BEING A FEMALE IS NOT A LIMITATION

In a world where men play the major roles, it is even termed a “Man’s World”. They get to be presidents, governors, senators and hold the top positions in government, they have the power even in the homes as the “Head of the house” and some women get threatened because it is not a “Woman’s world”.

Well not anymore, we are in a generation where women take charge over their homes, the government and the whole world at large. There are feminist everywhere who believes that women have equal rights as men. Just because “God took a rib out of a man to make a woman” does not mean they are inferior to men, I see it as being created to stand beside him, and the rib of a man is by his side not at his back. If they were created to be at the back of men, I guess God would have taken from the spine to create a woman.

Gone are the days when “We teach girls to shrink themselves to make themselves smaller, we say to girls, you can have ambitious but not too much, you should aim to be successful but not too successful Otherwise you will threaten the man (Chimmanda Adiche).

Now we have people like Ngozi Okonjo Iwela who is not only a female but also a wife that made a mark in world economy as a member of the World Bank, the likes of Folorunsho Alakija the richest woman in Africa, who has a net worth of 1.76 billion USD. We also have women contesting for president around the world, I mean give it up for Hilary Clinton, she is making a mark, even though she didn’t win the United States election, she would be remembered as the one who took a bold step. These people are not just females but also wives and mothers not to forget our own Linda Ikeji who make billions from blogging, just to mention a few.

So if you are a female and using it as an excuse not to make your waves, the world is leaving you behind, we are evolving and changing the world with us. Whatever field you find yourself make your mark, so you would be remembered for something, and not just as someone who belongs “in the kitchen, in the living room and the other room” like our President Mohammed Buhari described his wife, which in my own view is demeaning and inappropriate, making young girls who look up to her (the first lady) to believe that they don’t stand a chance in today’s world.

I am a Nigerian and I strongly disagree with the president’s opinion. Angela Merkel the chancellor of Germany who is serving her third term in office, he is well acquainted with or is she not a woman, well I guess people choose to believe what they want to believe. I choose to stand out as the woman in a “Man’s World” Feminism is never an excuse. Girl power all the way.
